ASEAN ARMY CHIEFS HOLD CLOSE-DOOR MEETING IN JAKARTA
The
army chiefs of 10 Southeast Asian nations held a closed-door
meeting here Tuesday to discuss various issues on regional
security and stability.
ANTARA reported here Tuesday that the meeting was chaired
by Indonesian Army chief, Gen Ryamizard Ryacudu, and was
attended by his counterparts Malaysia's Dato Sri Pahlawan
Moh Azumi bin Muhamad, Thailand's Chasif Sinawatra, the
Philippines' Efren Abu and Singapore's Desmond Kwek.
Vietnam's Nguyen Nang Nguyen, Laos' Kenekhum Shengyehone,
Brunei's Dato Paduka Abdurrahman, Cambodia's Meas Sophea,
and Myanmar's Mauraq Aye were also present at the two-hour
meeting held at the Hilton Hotel.
The holding of the closed-door meeting was part of the one-day
ASEAN Commanders of the Army Mutual Meeting (ACAMM), which
was opened here Tuesday.
The army commanders on Monday held talks on joint efforts
to combat terrorism and illegal arms trafficking, which
have plagued the region in the past few years.
The army chiefs agreed to set up a joint command post and
hold regular training sessions for soldiers to improve their
capability in combatting terrorism.
