ARMY COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OBSERVES FIRING TOURNAMENT IN CILODONG
Myanmarese Army Commander-in-Chief Maung Aye, visited the
firing range of the Indonesian Army Strategic Reserve Command
(Kostrad) in Ciloding, West Java, on
Sunday, to witness the Myanmarese contingent, which is taking
part in the on-gong 14th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet 2004.
Maung Aye arrived on the `land of the Green Beret' at 10:30
local time and directly visited several firing ranges where
the ASEAN armies are competing in a number of firing events.
The 14th AARM is being held in Cilodong from September 1 to
8, with about 500 army athletes from the 10 ASEAN countries
are taking part.
Accompanied by the military attache of the Myanmarese Embassy
in Jakarta, Aye looked serious in witnessing the Pistol match-4
category competition held at the 100 meters target range field.In
the field, his juniors were competing to show their best performance.
Maung Aye said he hoped the AARM would strengthen cooperation
among the armies of the ASEAN nations.
According to the Myanmarese number one figure in the army,
AARM would create positive results for ASEAN armies cooperation.
It will create common understanding and mutual respect for
the ASEAN armies as equal partners in building the noble ideals
of ASEAN regional cooperation.
He said that as other armies of ASEAN, the Myanmarese Tatmadaw
(army) was born of the people and will always give priority
to the interest of the state and nation."The Tatmadaw
has played an important role in developing a peaceful and
modern state, not just providing protection and maintenance
for the nation," he said.
Maung Aye is on a visit in Indonesia to attend the annual
ASEAN Chief of Army Multilateral Meeting (ACAMM) to be held
at Hilton Hotel Jakarta on Tuesday.
The Association of South East Asian Nations groups Indonesia,
Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, the Philip-pines,
Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.
