PHILIPPINES TRIUMPS IN AARM WOMEN'S FALLING PLATE EVENT

After a tough bout among the seven participants in the women's falling plate event of the 14th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet held here on Sunday, the Philippines Army team finally grabed the first place.

Indonesia came second after the Phillipines, followed by Brunei's Army's team, which is taking part in the falling plate event for the second time.The Philippines women's team, led by Sergeant Ginaly P Bendo, collected a total point of 6, followed by Indonesian team, which is led by Sergeant Major Rosidawati, booked a total point of 5, and the Brunei Darussalam's team, led by Corporal MardianaBinti Sarpudin collected 2 points.

Commenting on the achievement of her team, Bendo said that it was beyond her team's expectation. She said her team members trained in Fort Magsaysay with the aim to perform in this tournament as better as we did during the training. "But the result is better then we had expected," she said.

But the coach of the Philippines women's pistol team, Major Noel J toyato, said that the achievement is the peak of the training her team had conducted in Fort Magsasay. They trained here for four months.

"We have our own way of training how to shoot bet-ter. We have special mentalpreparations so that they are mentally ready to stay calm and stable. We stressed that they may hope to gain the best but must also be ready for the worst," she said.

This pistol event, which is basically similar to the women's pistol match-4, is participated in by four-member teams. The system used in this event is the round robin system, where each team faced its rival two times to be evaluated which of them is the fastest to shoot the target in a range of 20 meters.Actually, in this event on Sunday, there are five countries which have a score of 2 points, namely Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

They have equal points because each team was able to shoot eight targets at a height range between 30 to 120 centimeters.Each of the country which had similar points had the chance to be placed in the third place. Besides there was a technical problem between Brunei and Vietanam.

The team of juries offered to repeat the bout but Vietnam then gave in so that Brunei was declared the third winner.With .this achievement, Brunei has won three places, namely the third places for the automatic machine rifle, rifle match-3 and women's group pistol match-4 falling plate.
