ATHLETES AT 14TH AARM CAN CHANGE DEFECTIVE
BULLETS TO NORMAL ONES
The organizing cornmitee of the 14th Asean Armies Rifle Meet
(AARM) unlikely gives defective bullets to the participants,
and thus the participating shooters should tell the committee
if they find bullets with defects, an Indonesian Army officer
in charge of the carbine match at the 14th AARM, Capt. M Asmin,
said here Saturday.
Bullets
to be used at the 14th AARM could be defective but such a
condition isnot made by the commit-tee (members), he said,
adding that the defect might be caused by bad packaging or,
scratched by other objects.
Defective
bullets can be changed to normal ones, he said, citing that
a Vietnamese shooter once found that his bullet had defects
on it and the committee allowed him to change the defective
bullet to normal one.
According
to Asmin, if a shooter uses a defective bullet, he or she
may miss the target as the running bullet may deviate. All
the participating contingents of the ASEAN member countries
to the 14th AARMuse their own bulltes, except Cambodia who
uses ammunitions made by Indonesia's fire-arms producing company
PT Pindad, Asmin said.
He pointed
out that an athlete can use about 200 rounds of ammunition
during the 14th AARM which has been taking place in Cilodong,
West Java, from September 1 to 8, 2004.
Some 500 athletes are taking parts in the ongoing shooting
championship among the armies of the ten ASEAN member countries
Malaysia, Brunei Darussalm, Vietnam, the Philippines,
Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore.
