FOREIGN PARTICIPANTS HAIL HOLDING OF 14TH AARM
A number of participants to the 14th Asean Armies Rifle
Meet (AARM) being held by the Indonesian National Army here
from September 1 to 8, 2004, hailed the holding of the annual
shooting competition among the armies of the Asean member
countries, a member of the 14th AARM organizing committee
has said.
Chief
Range Official at the carbine range, Lt. Col. Ainur Rahman,
said here Thursday participants to the 14th AARM 2004 from
other ASEAN member
countries like Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines and Cambodia
were impressed by the good mechanism of holding the 14th AARM.
"They
(the foreign participants) are impressed among others by several
servicemen who show high discipline and order, even when they
only put on shooting targets," he said.
Several foreign participants have even taken pictures on certain
activities made by the organizing committee, Ainur said, adding,
"they may bring the
pictures
on the holding of the 14th AARM to their countries for reference
on how to organize such an event in their respective countries.
In
addition, he said, a number of foreign participants also said
they could enjoy staying in the housing complex of the Indonesian
National Army's Infantry Battalion in Cilodong, West Java
province, where the 14th AARM has been taking place since
September 1 to 8, 2004.
"They
can enjoy staying here because of the clean and nice environment
in the housing complex. There has been no complaints from
the foreign participants so far," he said.
On the Indonesian athletes participating in the 14th AARM,
especially for carbine match, Ainur said they are highly spirited.
"Even they insisted to continue the carbine match when
rain fell.
The
Indonesian National Army sends 62 shooters to the 14th AARM
consisting of 55 men and seven women.
Chief
of the Indonesian contingent to the 14th AARM, Major Rudianto,
has earlier said his side was optimistic that the Indonesian
team would be able to emerge as the overall champion in the
14th AARM.
According
to him, his side has tried to the maximum in preparing the
Indonesian athletes to the shooting competition among the
armies of the ASEAN member countries in the hope the Indonesian
team could win as many medals as possible.
