AARM ALWAYS ENABLES ASEAN SERVICEMEN TO FOSTER PROFESSIONAL
TIES, SAYS M'SIAN ARMY CHIEF
Chief
of the Malaysian Army, General Dato' Seri Mohd Azumi bin Mohamed,
said in a statement welcoming the 14th ASEAN Armies Rifle
Meet (AARM) that AARM has always provided the opportunity
for servicemen from the ASEAN Armies to meet and foster their
professional relationship in a friendly environment.
The 14th
AARM taking place from September 1 to 8, 2004, is being hosted
by the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) in Cilodong, West Java province,
Indonesia, with all the ASEAN member countries taking part
in it, it was reported here Tuesday.
According
to the chief of the Malaysian Army, AARM 14/2004 not only
promotes comrade-ship, understanding and a stronger bilateral
defence ties among the ASEAN Armies, but also the opportunity
to strengthen mutual respect, friendship and military cooperation.
"I
am confident that this year's meet under the able stewardship
of TNI-AD will continue the good work done thus far by previous
host nations. In a broader scope, AARM will continue to uphold
the aims and objectives of ASEAN thus fostering trust, respect,
equality, closer cooperation and mutual understanding,"
he said.
On this
occasion, he also extended his heartfelt congratulations to
the Indonesian Army for their diligence in preparing AARM
14/2004.
"Finally,
warmest regards to all participating nations and may they
participate in the true spirit of ASEAN whilst displaying
the highest professional military standards that will continue
to be the hallmark of our armies," he said.
Malaysia
sends 52 markmen comprising 43 men and nine women to the 14th
AARM.
